Vicke Lindstrand Trio of Vases
The natural & fluid shape of this trio reminds us of the liquid properties of molten glass, and whilst Modernist design is often associated with geometry and clean lines, many early post-war designers, and particularly those from Scandinavia, were designing for a new world with a focus on nature & softness.
Lindstrand's work from the 1950's, and early pieces from other prominent 20th Century designers such as Kaj Franck & Nanny Still, follow this more gentle, organic rendition of a modern aesthetic. The term 'organic modernism' is most often associated however with pioneer Gunnel Nyman, who utilised greatly, and popularised, the 'controlled bubble' technique that Lindstrand has chosen for this trio of vases. The bubbles spiral upwards from the base of each piece, contouring their naturalistic shape, before becoming distorted and elongated on the neck.
Lindstrand was a key figure in 20th Century Scandinavian design, and these pieces are typical of his works in glass of the 1950's, which are often organic in form.Model number: LH1011, LH1331
