Walter Bosse Chipmunk Pretzel Holder
An unusual brass pretzel holder in the shape of a stylised chipmunk. This object dates from the 1950's and was designed by Walter Bosse for Herta Baller, Austria.
The chipmunk is one of Bosse's more abstract and strikingly modernist designs. The animal's polished facial features are particularly distinctive, and lend the character a playful quality. The likeable creature, originally intended to hold pretzels, has been rendered in a particular art-style seen on only a handful of Bosse designs. The useful chipmunk features a long tail, ideal for storing pretzels (or rings!)
Walter Bosse is best known for his playful 'black-golden' line of patinated brass animals. Early examples, like this, are revered for their quality of design and manufacture.
