Walter Bosse Dachshund Pretzel Holder
A patinated brass dachshund pretzel holder, designed by Walter Bosse in the 1950's and produced to the highest quality in Vienna, Austria by the Herta Baller workshop.
Walter Bosse designed a number of animal pretzel holders in the early 1950's, and this dachshund is perhaps the most appropriate design of all, seeing that pretzels are such a wonderfully Germanic snack!
The dachshund has been brilliantly stylised by Bosse in a Modernist fashion. Although abstract, the object captures the essence of the delightfully short & elongated breed. The dog has been modelled with a long & elegant pointy nose, golden floppy ears, and a long tail on which pretzels, or rings, can be stored. The stylised design not only demonstrates the air of the 1950's, but also the playful & friendly aesthetic for which Bosse is widely loved & collected.
