Walter Bosse Elephant Candle Holder
An extremely sweet brass candle holder in the form of a young elephant, designed by Walter Bosse for Herta Baller, Austria, in the 1950s.
This delightful object, inspired by the circus, consists of a well-sculpted and stylised elephant performing an impressive trick with his trunk. The elephant is patinated, and features polished golden areas on his ears & forehead.
The object is stable & well-balanced, allowing the character to hold a candle safely.
Although his career began in ceramics, Walter Bosse is best known for his whimsical 'black-golden' line of patinated brass animals, such as this elephant. Early examples, like this, are revered for their quality of design and manufacture.
