Walter Bosse Elephant Pretzel Holder
A patinated brass elephant, designed by Walter Bosse in the 1950's and produced in Vienna, Austria by the Herta Baller workshop.
In true Austrian fashion, the original function of this smiling elephant was to hold & serve pretzels - a welcome guest at any party.
The elephant has been stylised in a playful & friendly manner so typical of Bosse's much-loved work. Balanced on four sturdy legs, he features a smiling mouth & large ears whilst pretzels (or rings!) can be stored on his long tapered trunk.
The elephant dates from the early 1950's, and Bosse's objects from this period are loved & collected not only for their fantastic design, but also for their quality of materials & craftspersonship.
