Walter Bosse Fish Corkscrew
This item is reserved.
An early Walter Bosse brass corkscrew in the form of a fish, beautifully handmade in Vienna, Austria, by the Herta Baller workshop circa 1950.
This practical addition to your collection was produced in Bosse's distinctively Modernist & universally lovable style. The functional fish, carefully sculpted to ensure ease and comfort in the hand, features a joyful & highly characterful expression with an open, smiling mouth. The curved body features a gently hammered surface, highlighting the handmade nature of this piece. Certain nuances in the sculpting of this fish make us believe it's a slightly early design from around 1949-50; Bosse's work with Baller became slightly more abstract as time passed.
Walter Bosse is well-known for his influential 'black-golden' line of patinated cast brass animals, and it's hard to deny the appeal of his vast portfolio of designs. Whilst active for many decades, examples of Bosse's work produced during the 1950's by Herta Baller, such as this piece, are revered and widely collected for their exquisite quality of design & manufacture.
